Suggestions for a new Mouse Pad
I want to pick up a new mouse pad. I've been using a SteelSeries cloth pad and I think it's either starting to deteriorate or is incredibly dirty.
I was thinking of picking up a metal one, because it probably won't deteriorate as much, and I heard that on some
1. the tracking is amazing and
2. mice glide across it just by lightly blowing on it.
What are your guys's recommendations, metal or otherwise?

Re: Suggestions for a new Mouse Pad
A couple of things that are worth mentioning.
1. The mousepad I have now is a SteelSeries QcK with a pretty picture on it. Links are below.
2. I'm not going to spend a lot on it, but I do want to learn more about mouse pads. Even if I won't buy it or can't afford it, I'd still like to hear some opinions on the more expensive ones, if you have them.
3. The mouse pad I have has these dimensions:
Custom: 12.6 inch * 10.6 inch * 0.08 inch
Metric: 320 mm * 270 mm * 2 mm
Diagonally, it's about 419 mm. This assumes that the corners are not rounded (I just did some quick math for the hypotenuse).
Links ahoy!
SS WotLK (what I actually have)

SS QcK (what it's based on, and has actual specifications)

SS WoW Cata Mouse (edit)

Edit: ...and, because it's relevant, the mouse I am currently using is the SS WoW Cataclysm. The picture I put up in the links is not from my personal mouse that I have in my hand right now, but is the same model. Mine is more worn down, with the most significant wear on the bottom left foot (bottom left in the picture; it's the one under the right side of my right hand, where I put the most weight down).

the big Steelseries ones have always served me well. never really thought about the metal frame ones before, they seem clunky and expensive to me. I had a plastic frames one from razer but didnt really like it

Re: Suggestions for a new Mouse Pad
I use a disgusting generic cloth mousepad that I won at a LAN 8 or 9 years ago playing the original CoD with some mates.
It has served me well, but I should probably wash it.
I don't understand overpriced mouspads.
It's a mousepad.
Mouse.
Pad.

Re: Suggestions for a new Mouse Pad
Yeah. I would wash it, but I don't want to mess up the colors on the mousepad. It's already starting to fade, and I really like the art on it.
I have problems focusing or actually having something to do while on the computer, so sometimes I just sit and notice stupid things like crumbs that my hand hits, or fibers that come off the mousepad when I get water on it (that's what's happening with my WotLK one I think, or it could just be dust), or when my mouse skips and scratches because there are crumbs or fibers or things under it.
I thinking that a metal one would be easier to wipe off, clean, and see when it's dirty. I recognize that this could probably solved by me just not eating at my desk, but I'm not going to stop eating at my desk.
As for the overpriced mousepads, I don't want one of the $99 giant metal desksized ones, but if someone wanted to talk about how awesome it was, I'd listen. I'd like to spend around $15 or under (which is about how much a cloth SS QcK one is), but if there was something really awesome about other ones, I might go up to $30ish if I thought it would last a long time.

Re: Suggestions for a new Mouse Pad
Right now, my current plan is to take my two QcKs to my GF's house and wash it with baby shampoo and maybe a soft toothbrush (the discoloration may be due to the minerals in my well water, and may come out with city-treated water, some soap substance, and maybe some Oxy Clean).
If that doesn't work or starts killing the artwork, I'm going to be looking at getting a black QcK, QcK+ (larger) , or QcK mass (thicker).
More opinions, suggestions, reviews, and comments will still be appreciated.

Re: Suggestions for a new Mouse Pad
i really prefer the hard mouse pads, your mouse will pick up movement much more when its not a gross cloth pad
the one i use is a lower end one called the razer Vespula. its double sided one for "speed" one for "control" basicly its smoother on one side and rougher on the other. and i do really like it though on the control side its starting to bubble on the outer edge not a huge deal just something to consider.
another thing about hard mouse pads is when you have a single bit of dirt or anything on it and you move your mouse over it you will know it.

Re: Suggestions for a new Mouse Pad
^ I use a razer vespula also, had a similiar "double-sided" mouse pad before this and liked that I can switch surfaces. Currently had this one for about a month and it's great, no fade or anything negative. I do though lean towards mousepads with wrist rests cause my table is a bit higher than my chair arm rest and without it I would probably stop circulation >.>.
