Solid processor, decent video card, nice chunk of RAM. Not too thrilled about the 5400 RPM hard drive. Worth the money? I suppose for a prebuilt it's alright.

sucky timing :(

hopefully your HDD didn't fry, or you have a backup of your WoW directory so you dont have to spend an absurdly long time patching WoW.

He could check the serial number on the box before buying it.
a.If the fourth through sixth digits of the serial number are "108" or numerically higher, your HP desktop does not have the affected Intel chipset. No further action is necessary.

b.If the fourth through sixth digits of the serial number are "107" or numerically lower, your HP desktop may have the affected Intel chipset. Proceed to step 2.
I would certainly hope that all affected systems are off store shelves by now (the chipset flaw was announced back in January) but you never know.
